HELPFUL TIPS - CARE FOR THE PILLOW
Speaking about the care of pillows, it should be understood that each item has a certain service life. Even the most expensive pillow, with the best care, will not last forever. The maximum service life of pillows, even of excellent quality, is 5 years, and it is still worth changing them.
Below are some tips on how to make your pillow last as long as possible.
WASHING
Pillows should be washed no more than 1-2 times a year. Modern pillows with synthetic filling can be hand washed or machine washable. But, mind you, always (!) You must follow the recommendations for washing.
A manufacturer that respects its customers and values its reputation always indicates data on the composition of the product, size and washing conditions. These signs are intuitive, you can always use the Internet if you suddenly have doubts. This is why we advise our clients to never cut a tag. In addition to the washing conditions, such tags indicate the style and brand name. That will help you in the future to purchase just such a pillow if you like it.
1. Before starting washing, make sure that the cover is intact, otherwise after completion, some of the filler will be outside.
2. Different types of filler have different maximum temperature values. That is why we will not say: wash the pillow at such and such temperature. After all, we believe that it is wrong to even indicate the range. We wash each product in accordance with the conditions indicated on the tag, strictly following the manufacturer's instructions.
3. It is better to choose liquid options with detergents and do not pour too much. Even a simple shower gel or shampoo is a better option than a regular powder. This is due to the fact that the powder granules are poorly washed out from the filler, and the powder can cause allergies.
4. At the same time, the air conditioner should be abandoned. This product may smell too strong, which, subsequently, will irritate during sleep. And neither the fabric of the upper nor the filler need softening properties.
5. Never add bleach when washing your pillow. This can spoil the properties of the most expensive filler.
6. Add 2-3 tennis balls or special rubbers for drying into the machine during washing. They will keep the filler in good shape, prevent it from straying into lumps, and organize additional fluffing.
7. Pillows love to be knocked down, so do it daily, it improves the properties of the filler.
DRYING
The quality of washing and care of your pillows is largely dependent on the correct drying of your textiles. Everyone understands that such a voluminous product as a pillow is not enough just to hang somewhere so that the water flows down. There are pillow options in which the cover is removed. Then it greatly simplifies the process. But, if you washed the pillow along with the filler, you will have to take the time to dry it completely. The moisture trapped inside will soon give rise to an unpleasant musty smell.
Here again we advise referring to the manufacturer's tag. Probably, the drying process will be easiest if the tag indicates that the product can be wrung out with a machine and dried in a specialized dryer. In this case, pay attention to the spinning and drying conditions. Follow the instructions carefully. After completing the process, allow the product to air out in a well-ventilated area.
But not every pillow has a drying permission icon, not everyone has a dryer. But there is a way out.
1. Squeeze water out of the pillow as gently as possible after washing.
2. Dry the pillow on a flat, horizontal surface.
3. Periodically, at intervals of 20-30 minutes, turn the product from one side to the other and beat it gently.
4. Choose an area that is well ventilated.
5. Avoid direct sunlight.
6. The first time after washing is not recommended to tuck the pillow under the blanket and bedspread.
Attention drying on a radiator or battery spoils the quality of the filler. He doesn't like high temperatures. It becomes brittle from them and loses its bulk.
Do not use the "spin" and "dry" operation unless advised by the manufacturer.
DO NOT hang the pillow from a rope. This leads to the fact that the filler gets lost in one corner, and the place of pressing with a clothespin loses the property of volume.
To ensure that the garment is completely dry, you can weigh the pillow before and after washing. The weight should be the same.
In general, pillow washing and drying are time consuming. But proper care of textiles prolongs its service life. The main thing is to always read what the manufacturer advises, and the pillow will reliably serve you for more than one year.
